What's the game about? Bethesda's newest FPS, Brink is set on the Earth Al Gore and his little crane gizmo warned us all about: in 2035, the planet's seas have risen to the point that the only viable city is a floating megalopolis in the middle of the ocean. Needless to say, all is not well with humanity, and Brink puts you in the role either of the "resistance" or the island's security forces (your choice; different campaign depending which you select) in a series of dynamic missions in which you either try to protect the status quo, or bring it crumbling down. Seriously I know! Kind of exciting to think we may actually see a new IP in FPSs. There hasn't been one (worth playing) since... shit I can't remember. All the big titles have old roots. Counter strike is likely the newest FPS IP that is widely popular. Wait no I suppose Crysis, but it is debatable if it is widely popular. |

Bethesda is only publishing it, Splash Damage is developing it (same people that made Enemy Territory: Quake Wars). From what I hear they it looks a LOT like Killzone 2. Edited by Voyevoda, Jun 15 2009, 09:58 AM.

Definitely debatable. F.E.A.R. might come close to being widely popular (at least the first one, dunno much about the second), and FarCry was in there close with CS wasn't it? EDIT: Also, @Voda's post: Thank god, Beth is only publishing. I don't think I will ever touch another one of their in-house projects after what they did with Fallout. I'm pretty sure for at least half of the next decade, most publishers will be necroing dead franchises to ravage over and over again. I guess they're taking cues from the rest of the entertainment industry. Edited by Ninjerk, Jun 15 2009, 12:12 PM.

Yes. You are correct Splash Damage is the developer. They are known for making great looking games that are extremely stable. I don't know what process they are using for making it. But I would imagine they would continue with their megatexture development philosophy. It means longer map loading times. But you get a MUCH better looking game that runs on older systems. Everyone I know who played either of the Enemy Territory games LOVES them. Shit ET: RTCW is still one of the top 20 games on Steam, and it is 9 years old, nd the graphics LOOK like it is. Splash damage is very good at making Team centric objective based FPSs. Keeps the action hot and heavy. Battlegrounds/Scenarios are essentially the same concept in a MMO form. The fact that Splash Damage is the developer and Bethesda is the Publisher is enough for me to buy it. Kinda like when HL2: Episode 3 comes out one day, I already know I will buy it. I have never played Killzone2, but they describe Brink as...

I'm down if the game looks as great as it's sound. But seriously this game is going to have so much competition.....there is like 50 fps coming out in the next 2 years. |
