anyways aion is a demanding game. you can't really play aion casually and expect to be competitive.
Why do you have to be "competitive" as in have your name up in lights on the server? I thought everyone wanted to go into Aion and play casual and relaxed -- but well. The people still around are still good players and they should still be winning more fights than they lose, right? Probably quite a few more? To me that would have been enough. If that's not how it is, I'm glad I was too busy to pick it up at launch with you guys.

Personally I don't recall it, but I know at least a few other people still remember (and have screencaps buried somewhere I'm sure) the time our little 30 odd person casual guild beat the mighty Infamous in WSG on Darkspear when we probably had all of 10 purples between us and the majority of your team was decked out in beyond rank 10 PvP gear. Not trying to make a big deal about that, but seriously, smaller casual guilds can have their day. We had a couple married guys, a couple people with kids, and mostly just people who were in their last year of college and had to be serious and people who were 1-3 years out of college and had to focus on getting their new career going. We couldn't commit, but when we could play, we played well. Most people on Darkspear would remember my name before they'd remember the guild name, because I was a forum personality, but no one really cared about "immortalizing" the guild name or whatever, it was about having fun with friends and knowing when they could play, they wouldn't be idiots. I won't even mention the tag, just out of curiosity if anyone even knows it.

Time goes by and we started bringing in more friends of friends, and some groups of friends who no one in the guild knew before they approached us, cause people got bored and wanted to see raid content. It went to shit from there. They were good people, but I couldn't handle playing with nice people who still sucked at the game. And I didn't want to play with dickheads just cause they were good at the game. So I quit playin.

Anyways, rambly as that is, my point is I don't see why you can't enjoy playing in a small guild of good friends who play hard when they have time to play. I prefer that to playing in a huge crowd of jackoffs who either suck or suck to play with. Who the fuck cares if people know your guild name or other servers or three years after the main community has died or whatever? It's nice to have a legacy, and I've had one, guildwise and characterwise, both in SWG, and WoW, but they've all been not actively pursued. It was more about having fun and being good, and the recognition came about on it's own because we were good and we had a blast, and when people PUG'd with us they thought we were both good and a good time... I dunno. That's just how I play MMOs. For good times. Winning is better times than losing of course. ;)
well, guilds in aion are either ingame chatrooms or fort cappers. there's not much room in the middle, unlike warhammer. you could have a small group of elite players run around and gank (which is only useful if you're trying to make a name), but if your group of 6 are up against a group of 8 equally-geared, somewhat competent puggies, you're probably going to lose regardless of skill level.

the problem is you get PVP gear in this game not by actually pvping, but by PVEing fort guards. right now, there's absolutely no reason to defend a keep, so sieges are basically your zerg vs a group of npcs. when you're not sieging, you're out killing fort guards for points.

may i also mention that players have the same level-damage modifiers that mobs have. ie, if a player is 2 levels above, your chance to hit is dropped as much as an orange mob is. a player 8 levels above you, to my knowledge, will result in all attacks dealing one damage. leveling in this game behind the curve in pvp is absolutely miserable. not to mention all the combined land masses for each side in this game equal about the plaguelands in WoW. the reason they don't implement mounts and shit is because people will realize that ncsoft did a half ass job at actual material in the game.

anyways, i resubbed, played for two days, and got bored again. you're basically forced to level in pve if you're behind the curve, and since this game is gear based, you will ALWAYS be behind the gear curve. the class imbalance is pretty ridiculous too. if you're running around for AP and you see a templar at half health, you don't stop to kill him; it just takes too long. as the highest dps class in the game it's worth it to go kill a couple mobs, rest to full health, then go kill a couple more instead of attacking a lowbie tank. i can't imagine what it's like for lower dps classes.

ncsoft has also taken a liking to the "realism" factor in 1v1 in this game.at equal levels, heavy armor classes beat light armor classes. casters beat heavy armor classes. light armors beat casters. healers result in stalemates until one side gets backup. did they think pokemon SUPER EFFECTIVE class balance was a good idea?

blizzard were just a bunch of pussies and did whatever the community whined about most. ncsoft doesn't do anything the community wants but still manages to put retarded shit in the game.

the one thing the community whined about was the amount of botting. ncsoft, finally losing recurring subscriptions, went on "banning sprees" 5 days before resubs. The admins using global chat to inform everyone on the server that he had just banned a bot or spammer. we'd usually get about 10 of these messages and everyone would go "oh hey, they're doing something about it finally, i think i'll resub". And they did.

The problem is, they never banned most of them. nothing was really done about spammers except not allowing you to say "gold" ".com" or "kinah" in global chats. most botters were suspended for 24 hours with a warning. not only is that bad, but the warnings meant nothing. botters waited a day, logged back on and started botting again, only to be suspended for another 24 hours a couple days later. i've heard accounts of people getting banned 6 times in a row with no suspension longer than a day.

with no anti hack tools the hacking is rampant too. ever seen a guy start flying in air where you're not allowed to?

i'll bet you that they've got the mega patch all ready for western release, but are just delaying. they'll release it a day before subscriptions end.

Except by theme parking the shit out of it and making the PvP meaningless and shitty like every other mass market MMO has been the last 6 years?

Yeah, I'm pretty much done with this game. Once people starting hitting 40, I started hearing what endgame was like. I don't know what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting a 98719283321 hour armor grind. I'm just not going to do that. Honestly, I'm probably done with mmorpgs. I'm seriously too old for this shit. For some reason, WoW (vanilla) didn't really feel like work, but Warhammer and Aion both have that feel. Frankly, I'm not going to pay some company in order to do work. That's ludicrous.

The botting is rampant and sometimes it feels like there are more bots on than players. Not only is it irritating to try to compete with mobs with a two person group of bots, but it fucks up the marketplace.

I haven't seen the hacks, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if I did see one.

I feel like a putz for actually having the time to put into this game and quitting, but I really think life is too short for shit like this. Could you imagine if our ancestors knew we'd be paying money to do 'work' that is entirely unproductive? Bullshit imo.

Somehow this game managed to put me into a serious existential crisis.

it depends on what else you could be doing. i live in an area where there's hardly shit to do except go hang out with a bunch of retards at books-a-million or go bang a chick who's going to instantly get attached and fake a pregnancy in order to try to marry you (happened to my ex roommate). as soon as I get my degree i'm moving the fuck out of the south, but until then i'm either left to surround myself with make-believe or a bunch of racist rednecks with the iq's of 80-90

You never know man, the game might surprise you. I'm impressed by it so far, and they did say they have a team dedicated to the pvp.

And somehow in his mind, that makes him a better man than the rest of us. Call me crazy, but I don't follow on that one. WAR was definitely lacking.
